The old boys could not hang this year. For the first time in quite a while, the alumni were defeated by the current BURFC club at the annual Baylor Rugby Alumni Festival in Waco.

Men of the match were Gavin Goetchius for the alumni and Nate Sloan for BURFC. Fitness was – as usual – a major factor. Coach Nick Lane has the boys looking good this year. They are fit, they hit hard, and they play team rugby.

The event was a huge success, overall, generating over $3,600 for the Baylor Rugby Association. A special thanks to all who attended to support BURFC.

Mark those calendars now. This event takes place every Labor Day weekend in Waco. Next year’s dates are September 3rd-5th.

Congratulations to BURFC for winning the 2009 Cowtown Rugby Tournament in Fort Worth, TX last weekend. This is the 2nd time Baylor has taken home the trophy in the last three years.

Baylor Wins Cowtown Tourney

After starting off a little slow and sloppy and falling to TCU early Saturday morning, the Bears took care of business the rest of the day, beating Texas State, MSU and UNT to finish 3-1 and get into the championship game Sunday.

Right from the kickoff on Sunday, there was no question who’d be finishing on top this year. Baylor looked crisp and ran through the UNT defense.

Nick Lane has the boys looking very good this year.

Baylor defeated SFA 70-5 on a windy Saturday afternoon. More match details soon, but the important info is that they advance to the semi-finals in San Marcos at Texas State University.

If you are alumni and are interested in meeting to support the club, please contact Brian Dusablon. We are planning a small alumni event around these playoffs. Hopefully, with enough people, this will include something Saturday afternoon, and golf on Sunday morning.

Baylor lost to UNT on Saturday, going down 30-15.
 
UNT came to play and Baylor took till the 2nd half to start playing rugby, by this time it was too late.
At half time the score was 25-5. Baylor managed to win the 2nd half (10-5), but as we all know rugby is an 80 minute game.
 
Our three tries were scored by winger Matt Wedige, Josh Dewalt and Andy Audet.
 
We will now face SFA on Feb 28th in Waco for the Texas quarter final. The game should be at 2pm.
 
This will be our only focus as from the now the competition is a ‘knock out’ set up. Meaning if we lose our season is over.
